I hope everyone’s well today thanks for coming in i want to talk to you today about a metformin recall metformin is a very popular treatment for diabetes and a lot of diabetics and pre-diabetics are put on metformin it’s an oral medication uh it typically comes in a 500 milligram 750 milligram or a 1 000 milligram extended release peel meaning you take it typically

Once or twice a day so let me get to the story here um if you want to see this story it’s on fda.gov but i’m going to go over some of the points of it update the fda is alerting patients and healthcare professionals to too voluntary two different companies that make metformin are recalling this and it’s because it because it has a carcinogenic in it when it had

Which has been known to cause uh cancer so definitely if you have these pills you want to throw these out and get new ones um so the uh two voluntary recalls of extended release metformin by mark sands pharma and sun pharmaceutical industries the companies are recalling metformin because it contains nitrocymethylene ndma in ndma and uh above the acceptable intake

Uh mark sands expanded its voluntary recall to include 76 additional unexpired lots of metformin 500 milligram and 750 milligram labeled as time cap labs so if you have 750 or 500 milligram and they are labeled as time cap labs uh products you’re you’re in the running there you need you need to check on those and uh sun uh pharmaceuticals voluntary recalled

One lot of rhiomet er metformin hydrochloric ride for extended release oral suppression 500 milligrams uh so that’s what’s going on with that when fda published a recall recalled metformin list including details about metformin products that have been recalled uh patients taking recalled uh extended release metformin should continue taking it until a doctor or

Pharmacist gives them a replacement or a different treatment option it could be dangerous for patients with type 2 diabetes to stop taking their metformin without first talking to their health care professional by all means i am not a healthcare professional this is just an alert about the recall you should do your own research um you know for your situation

Um so don’t just stop taking your medication it says you know get ahold of your doctor fda recommends that healthcare professionals continue to prescribe metformin when clinically appropriate the agency testing has not shown ndma in immediate release ir metformin products the most commonly prescribed type of metformin so if you have extended release you need to

Be looking at it if it’s the instant release not so much um but yeah guys this was issued on 10 5 so if you have any of this and you didn’t hear about this be sure to get that checked out let your doctor know what’s going on if you have the er extended release not the immediate release so if you like this content be sure to hit the thumbs up subscribe i try to

Keep up with these uh videos on diabetic issues we’ll be doing more of these in the future i appreciate all my new subscribers and i’m going to try to become more regular with the content but until next time stay healthy
